Why You Should Consider The Ozarks for Your Next Golf Destination

You’ve probably watched Ozark. But you probably haven’t been to Missouri. If so, here’s your chance. One of the ultimate buddies’ trips is a visit to none other than Big Cedar Lodge. Minutes from Branson, the resort has blossomed with Five world-class courses, all within a few miles of each other. World famous designers such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Tom Fazio have put Big Cedar on the map as one of the country’s top golf destinations. Let’s look at each of the Five Courses:

  • Payne's Valley: Designed by Tiger Woods, the course is the newest on the property and is a tribute to the late Payne Stewart, a native of Missouri and one of the greatest golfers of all time. The course features stunning views, dramatic elevation changes, and challenging holes that pay tribute to Stewart's unique playing style. The 19th hole, a par-3 with a green that sits on a cliff overlooking the surrounding mountains, offers a truly unforgettable golfing experience.
  • The Buffalo Ridge Springs Course: Re-designed by Tom Fazio, this course has long been touted as the number one course in the state of Missouri. When you step up to the first tee and the back tee markers are the skulls of longhorns, you know you’re in for a treat. The course showcases the charm of the Ozarks with rich native grasses, natural rock formations, caves and creeks, lakes and waterfalls and free-ranging North American bison. With dramatic elevation changes and water features on almost every hole, this course is both challenging and visually stunning.
  • Ozarks National Course: Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Ozark National is a true masterpiece. This championship course winds through the Ozark Mountains, offering stunning views and challenging play. The course features rolling fairways, unique bunkering, and several water features. The 18th hole, a par-4 with a green that sits on a rocky outcropping, offers a challenging and unforgettable finish to the round. If you want to feel like you’re in the Ozarks, this course will give you that.
  • The Top of the Rock: A signature Jack Nicklaus course, this is a 9-hole, par-3 course that offers some of the most stunning views in the area by far. From the course, golfers can take in panoramic views of Table Rock Lake and the Ozark Mountains. Also on display is Arnie’s Barn, a magnificent 150-year-old barn relocated from Arnold Palmer’s backyard in Latrobe, PA. There is no better way to spend a late evening sunset then at Top of the Rock. It is truly one of the most spectacular par 3 courses in the country.
  • The Mountain Top Course: Designed by Gary Player, this course is a unique 13-hole, par-3 course that offers a fun and challenging golfing experience. The course is intertwined through rock formations, 300-million-year-old exposed limestone which adds to an incredible experience out on the course. This is the perfect course to grab some beers and play 13 holes.

When it comes to accommodations, Big Cedar Lodge offers a variety of options, both on and off the property. There are several options for all budgets. From private cabins to beautiful cottages, lodge rooms, to glamping, Big Cedar has it all. Each room is beautifully appointed and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The lodge also features several amenities, including an outdoor pool, a spa, and a fitness center. Each accommodation is decorated with the Jimmy Morris Bass Pro Shop flare, so expect an outdoors feel everywhere you go.

In addition to golf, Big Cedar Lodge offers numerous activities for guests to enjoy. Shooting, boating, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, are just some of the activities available for guests. The lodge also features several restaurants such as Buffalo Bar, Mountain Top Grill, Osage, and Arnie’s barn. Be sure to also check out the late-night Buzzard Bar with live entertainment!

In terms of getting to Big Cedar Lodge, there are several regional airports nearby. The lodge also offers shuttle service from the airport, making transportation a breeze. Springfield is about an hour drive and offers several flight options. However, do be sure to check out Branson airport. This airport is practically on the property and is working on getting more commercial flights during the summer months (i.e. Frontier, Sun Country, etc.). This would be by far the easiest way to travel.
